So how do you get your game ideas? Well here is some people's ideas:

  • I get almost all my game designs in the shower, whilst caught in the rain, on a form of transport (also in the rain) or on the train to/from work. I find these are (not so much the train) times when no one else is around bothering me and I can clear my mind of all the usual junk that clogs it up.
  • Mostly when i'm alone too. Shower, transport, in bed etc. I get a lot of inspiration from philosophy and biology too. Often i'll have to get my ipod out in class to quickly write down my ideas.
  • My Archimedes Thought Chamber - Also known as my claw footed bath tub. The trick here is to not fall a sleep and wake up in cold water. Otherwise a relaxing way to let the mind wander and stumble on unique ideas.
  • Just doodle on paper. You don't have to start out with a game on mind. Write down a few notes as to the "tone" of the idea you want to have, or certain things you want the game to be like. These can be other games, or life experiences.
  • This one is a bit weird, and I'm not sure how exactly I came across it. It's a sort of meditative creativity technique.
  •  Honestly, while playing other games but I always think of how stuff could be done differently, my most recent idea actually came from a custom made map for a certain RTS game, I thought the idea was great and the gameplay seemed really fun to me.

So how do you get your ideas??
Feel free to share your ideas!
